RULES

Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a wiffle ball over a net. The dimensions and layout of the court are similar to badminton, the net is similar to tennis, and the paddles and ball are similar to table tennis.

SCORING

Games are played to 11, win by 2. Only the serving team may score a point. Each team member gets to serve until they lose the point, with one exception, the team that serves first only gets 1 server to begin the game. The score should be announced before each serve and will consist of 3 numbers (serving team score, receiving team score, and server number). Ex. 10-9-2 means the serving team is winning with a score of 10 to 9 and the second server is serving.

SERVING

Serve must be entered underhand from behind the baseline cross-court into the service box past the kitchen. Only the serving team can score points.

SERVE & RECIEVE

After the serve, the receiving team must let the ball bounce, then the serving team must let the returned ball bounce before hitting the ball. After two bounces, the ball may be volleyed (hit in the air) or attacked off the bounce. A player cannot strike the ball while standing in the kitchen unless the ball bounces first.

THE KITCHEN

The court is 22-feet long on each side of the net. The front 7-feet closest to the net is known as the non-volley zone or "The Kitchen".  After the the ball bounces twice after a serve, the ball can be volleyed (hit in the air). A player cannot strike the ball while standing in the kitchen unless the ball bounces first. A player also must stay out of the kitchen in the act of volleying a ball. If momentum carries the player into the kitchen during and after the act of volleying, it is a fault.
